Food Freedom Bible Study

Food Freedom Bible Study

In March we introduced our course here, and now we’re finally ready to tell you more about it - since it will be officially launching on May 20th!

The goal of this bible study is to address the heart issues that you have with food and your body. Let’s call a truce - God wants freedom for you in every area of your life, including with food and your body.

The church should be one of the most inclusive places on the planet and we’ve done a terrible job about this for certain groups of people including individuals with large bodies.

Some think it’s ok to tell fat jokes from the pulpit, or to call people in large bodies “sinners” because there’s an assumption that a person in a larger body isn’t taking care of themselves. That’s totally false – you can’t tell a person’s health habits or self-control based on their appearance. And fat jokes are not ok. Period.

Many Christian communities offer books and devotionals that promote an unhealthy and restrictive lifestyle in the name of weight. And what happens? The scale becomes the idol. The problem is, this is not how God designed our bodies to live abundantly. Plus, He is a jealous God who wants our whole heart and attention with no other idols.

How did He design our bodies to eat and move? Since He’s a brilliant creator who can be trusted, we have permission to trust our bodies too. He designed them with a beautiful hunger and fullness regulator system – that many of us have lost touch with due to chronic dieting and disordered eating. This course will mend the broken relationship that you have with your body and learn to trust it again.

We are so close to launching this course and we want it in EVERY church because the reality is, we could all use a wakeup call.

Church-based weight loss competitions, programs, and Bible studies aren’t working.

They’re making health worse, not better. They’re unintentionally creating a toxic, unwelcoming worship space for congregants in larger bodies. And they’re leading us all down a slippery slope of a thin-obsessed culture where negative body image and low self-esteem reign supreme.

Plus, those tactics aren’t working.

We’re praying that this course brings healing to you and those you walk alongside, and draw you closer to your Creator, who knit you in your mother’s womb, to live a life believing that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139).

Nicole resides in the East Bay Area where she works in private practice as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She is a Mom of two and serves alongside her beloved husband in their local church. Most recently she's devoted her time to cleft and craniofacial awareness, education and interventions when her second daughter was unexpectedly diagnosed with a cleft palate at one week old. She completed both her bachelor's degree and her dietetic internship at California State University, Chico, where she was also a NCAA cross country and track athlete. Through those experiences, God prompted her to help people of all shapes and sizes discover health, body peace and acceptance through the unconditional love of Jesus. Nicole most enjoys spending time around a table and eating delicious food with the people she loves.
